Re: Mac have officially deprecated opengl
Realistically, what would it take to migrate Spring to Vulkan? Besides making it easier to support macOS (something I'd love, of course), would it offer anything additional for Spring on other platforms, too?

Re: OpenGL context and macOS
A whole lot of work that is at least one major engine release away from being done. Any pointers? I'm guessing that trying to force 2.1 on the macOS version of the Spring Engine is a fool's errand, anyway - surely there is a reason why 3.1 was made the minimum, because the engine is using 3.1-only ...

Re: Trying to build develop branch
MacOS is excellent. However, it seems Apple has decided that they are better served with developing their Metal APIs rather than continuing to support OpenGL. Annoying for us, though.Silentwings wrote:That sounds to me like someone ought to improve MacOS.

Re: Trying to build develop branch
I've posted over in the development forum, but just a quick summary here: Mac OS doesn't support creating the required Open GL compatibility context. If you try to force the code to create the appropriate core context, it creates a context that is the latest version of Open GL on your system - for m...

Re: OpenGL context and macOS
Ok, last thing… I decided to just comment out various stuff in that file which looks for the available context versions, and just forced the creation of a core 3.1 context. Discovered that when you ask for a core context, you always get the latest available (for my Mac, GL 4.1), not the one you ask ...

OpenGL context and macOS
Ok, I'm bringing this here from the thread in the Mac OS X forum: https://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=36428 Basically, 104.0 is failing to create the GL context on mac OS. Best I can tell is that the required compatibility context is not supported by mac OS, and so the function CGlo...

Re: Trying to build develop branch
Hey Belmakor, great news! Can you share a dependency list and/or any tricks that you had to use to make it work? Not so great news, I'm afraid. I had built it, but I hadn't tried to run it. Tried to run it just now. SDL2 can't create the OpenGL 3.0 context, so the launch fails. Investigating… =====...

Hey Belmakor, great news! Can you share a dependency list and/or any tricks that you had to use to make it work? Ah… I took the script Dark Lord posted as my starting point and worked outwards from there. I remember having to patch a header file in libSDL to get things to compile… I've got 104.0 bu...

I've managed to successfully build master / 103.0 Trying to build the current develop, I get the following error when trying to link the spring executable: [ 98%] Linking CXX executable ../../../spring Undefined symbols for architecture x86_64: "spring::synced_hash<unsigned long>::operator()(un...

because MacOS is a garbage development platform for anything other than Objective-C / Swift applications. Tell us how you really feel ;) IMO macOS is an awesome developer platform. It's user friendly, and it's full Unix. There's a reason why lots of developers have switched to Mac… The problem with...

Lobby server statistics?
I seem to remember years ago there was a web page that showed a history of how many people were logged in to the lobby, how many games were played, and other statistics like that. Does such a thing still exist? If so, where? Please forgive me if this is actually easy to find, but my own searches hav...

Works for me usually… crashes if I try to join a server with a map I don't have. Or the server changes to a map I don't have.

Re: Unitsync documentation?
This is technically an in-game lobby rather than an in-engine one - it's standalone and runs like any other game. I've been developing it and as abma said, it's still pretty early in the development (not usable), but I'd gladly welcome any outside contribution. The only caveat is that it requires a...
