Ok gentlemen, I think we have left the peak behind now. It's going downwards from here on.

It's got to be easy on the tongue, and easy on the ears. When I told some friends about Zero-K, at first they were like:
"What? Ze are ok?" ¬_¬
"No like the number 0, but spelt out. And K, not kay. And there's a dash in there."
"Why did they choose that name?"
"I dunno, something to do with science or something."
For real? You didn't just make that up? That honestly blows my mind because that's the opposite of every experience I've had. Just a week ago I told a co-worker about Zero-K, and watched as he immediately googled it and got to the website in literally 5 seconds without any prompting from me.

As for the 'science' bit, that is just an education fail.

I guess that's why no one care for my classy Latin suggestion.

Go back to latin,

Deus Ex Machina

"God out of the machine"

And you could call it DEM. "Let's play DEM guys". See it just rolls off the tongue.

+1

I would also like the word 'metal' to be in the name since it is central to the game... What about:
- metal strike
- metal conflict
- metal commander
- metal tears (yes, I am a romantic)
?

I also noticed that there is very few BA players in Asia, while China and Korea could bring millions of players... so, what about pleasing them with 'metal dynasty', 'tigers and robots', 'robot kung fu'?

you are welcome

Metal is a TAism, there's nothing stopping us renaming it, even Supreme commander went and renamed it to Mass, and most RTS use Ore, or even Crystal.

We could call it Material, Alloy, Ore, Steel, etc, and we have the opportunity to do so.

I'm not sure doing away with all "TA-isms" is something we should strive for. The gameplay, the complexity of unit types and numbers, the economy are all things that are based on what we think good in TA. The only reason to do away with TA-isms purely on the basis of them being TA-isms is IP infringement. In every other case, in cases where IP could not be invoked, we should only change things if we feel that they are dysfunctional currently and if the outcome of that change is better than the origin. Frivolous changes for the sake of things being different lead to chaos.

My god i sound like a conservative politician.

Then I recommend we call them Atarisms for legal reasons

I would rather not invoke that name here, lest we call the dark lord upon us.

My god i sound like a conservative politician.
Could be worse, when I hear people raging against things like changing solar hitsphere to better fit model, it's like arguing with fundamentalists.

Actually I think that is a legit position. Although personally I think I like the supcom model best, because 'mass' is as equivalently generic as 'energy'.

Either shouldn't really be a problem though. It's not like you can trademark terms like 'energy' 'metal' and 'mass'.
