More Realistic Muzzle Flares
by lowering the brightness and adding some orange (more red less green) the tank and rifle muzzle flare sfx i think they become much more flame like in appearance:
the top rifle flare is my edited flare
the smg is the original
shows the new flame like tank flare

Re: More Realistic Muzzle Flares
Those are very pretty. Do you think the big flashes produced by tanks, say in ba with bulldogs is too cartoony for s44?
Re: More Realistic Muzzle Flares
If anything, it's a bit understated, although it would be very hard to pull off with CEG.
Re: More Realistic Muzzle Flares
With such muzzle flares there should also be a gadget that kills all soldiers right in front of the tank, whenever it fires
Re: More Realistic Muzzle Flares
Abrams 120mm monster gun is not really comparable with shermans 75mm. *insert period ww2 pictures and videos*
Re: More Realistic Muzzle Flares
IRL, being anywhere near a tank cannon's barrel when it fires can be lethal. Heck, plenty of people have been killed or seriously injured by the backwash from "bazooka" types of portable rocket launchers. With such muzzle flares there should also be a gadget that kills all soldiers right in front of the tank, whenever it fires
FLOZi, stop it on the frames where the 88 fires (it's maybe 1-2 frames). Not quite as dramatic as the 120, but it's pretty dramatic- the exhaust gasses (the fireball) is maybe 1.5 width of the gun carriage, based on distance from the POV. I'm sure that the 30-60mm stuff wasn't so showy, ofc.

Re: More Realistic Muzzle Flares
The 88 (even the L/56) is one of the largest guns of the period though, not just in calibre but in the size of the cartridge (and how 'hot' the cartridge is).
But yeah, S44 CEG's could use some love. Feel free to help out, I'm busy trying to fix a million and one script and lua bugs.

I'll have some things that you might like to play with soonish; I'm finishing the last big pushes on P.O.P.S. replacements of CEG over the next day or three, and it allows for a level of... flexibility... you might find intriguing. I will probably make a video presentation.
Re: More Realistic Muzzle Flares
Yes please... I have noticed that I hate CEG, haven't tried P.O.P.S. yet but willing to give it a try If there are advantages to using in.Argh wrote:I'll have some things that you might like to play with soonish; I'm finishing the last big pushes on P.O.P.S. replacements of CEG over the next day or three, and it allows for a level of... flexibility... you might find intriguing. I will talk more about it when it's really ready. Still figuring out various speedups, etc., so it's taking awhile (like all good things).
Here's just one example of what it can do, though: a really decent, CPU-friendly flamethrower (bear in mind, this is just a tech test, it will get even more cool later):

Hey, cool but I don't read size 3 font.

Re: More Realistic Muzzle Flares
Its important to realize those injuries stem from two entirely different forces. Injuries from "bazooka" type weapons typically stem from plumes of extremely hot, high velocity exhaust gases. Whereas injuries from standing near artillery typically comes from what is known as "over pressure".IRL, being anywhere near a tank cannon's barrel when it fires can be lethal. Heck, plenty of people have been killed or seriously injured by the backwash from "bazooka" types of portable rocket launchers.
Contrary to most perceptions of explosives, over pressure is what kills the majority of people. Secondary injuries stem from shrapnel. Over pressure typically causes internal injuries which can range from crushed inner ears to crushed lungs and bladders.
The reason I make these distinctions is because hand held weapons are specifically designed to limit overpressure. Otherwise, firing the weapon would place an expiration date on its users. Though firing such weapons from enclosed spaces can still be extremely lethal to all within the confined space.
Notice the Javilin in this video has two rocket motors. The first charge launches but is so short it prevents both exhaust burns and over pressure. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sg3UXzseLTI Once clear of the launcher, the secondary motor kicks in to carry the missile to its target.
