Right, or try putting the barrels(?) below the guns on the left one.

Eh, I think the HUGE AMMO DRUMS give it character

Left. Because there it look likes he has upper and lower arms. Even though they might not be jointed, I think it looks better then Right with the guns mounted directly to the shoulder.

This thread has some images of similar looking designs. Is that a developing unit design and will the earlier ones de discarded? Or are you using them for different units?

The earlier design is a more general mech. This is for a specialist mech which can fire either sustained medium fire, or sustained rapid fire but it'll cook it's guns where it has to stop shooting for a while

will the overcooking gunbarrels be switched with a red selfiluminati glowing secondary gunbarrel that was hidden? + the sound of cooling down metall allinclusive? God damn it.. thats sweet and easy.. and noone done it.. and i suggest it, i must be stupid.. Disregard that, this is going into jw..

I'd like to see it with the barrels underneath.

raming them in, back and forth, while the enemy goes to pieces..

come to think of it, has there ever been a attempt to combine the concepts mech and tank for there strength? Meaning a mech, moving flat and low through terrain, (spider-mech) and expanding only during the aiming phase?

Yeah, transforming mechs etc.

I like the idea where the tank-tracks are on the legs.
example example

And of course there are tachikoma's and other armour from that universe/ip, which have wheels on the end of the leggs.

For a spring unit it sounds hard. Something with measuring level of ascent perhaps, i don't know.

( Apologies for possible derailment of thread :-) )

I have seen those designs, I always found them be asinine. The treds would be pulled off when the "legs" angled out. I like the tank treds on the back of the loto from unicorn.

Nah firestorm, I am not going to really get into a side discussion about designs, I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do. I definitely won't get into what I should or shouldn't design because the thread will get flooded with people posting their "ideas" etc that I don't really need. I have tons of ideas but I am taking my time seeing each one fleshed out to a reasonably believable form.

I believe that modeling stuff is the best way to see out a design, the rest is idle chatter which has never really interested me.

This faction with the big stompy stuff will not have transformable suits. That is for another group and I already know the form I want them in.

Star wars droideka come to mind, although not exactly a tank.

To be more on topic I completely agree with firestorm about the left one, but I'm sure once ingame either would look good.

use the arms for something else, single ammo drum goes to the back and fuse the chaingun to the torso left or rightm, mainly because asymetry is cool.

Fused to the torso would cook the pilot.

Ammo drum in the back would mean guns would need ammo belts feeding into them, ones about 10-15 feet long. Ammo belts cannot be done well in spring. Ammo feeding through the core into the arms made little sense.

to restate. This unit's KEY mechanic is that the guns will have a fire mode which causes them to over heat, they cannot be attached to the body because this mech is around 40 feet tall and it needs the open air to cool the weapons. On regular firing the multi barrel design+open air makes it possible but the spin up mode will cause that cooldown to be negated. The core cannot be used to cool the weapons nor can the core have a cooling system as the powercore of the mech dominates MOST of the cooling systems.

Could the ammo drums be integrated into the torso without looking ridiculous?
