Ok, so the problem here is, using a universal texture on fairly complex models is...silly. So, despite working on it for the past 6 hours or so, it looks like shit. (The uvw that is. The meshes are fine.)
But, being as I promised Christmas presents, I'll show you the commander mesh.
I think at this point I'll wait for pyra to come back from "Christmas-in-Korea" to see if he wants to make custom textures for them. For now, I'll just work on other units. And no, I'll wait until the wrap is on to show the krogoth. You know, for dramatic effect and all.
F*cking awesome! If you feel you need more texture space on the atlas, remember that it can still be easily extended to 2048*2048. I can then just run a linear transformation on the UV's of the existing models.
Imo commanders should have small laser gun on their shoulders. It feels dumb that they shoot laser from huge cannons, especially when commander laser is weak. Cannons should be for construction beam, reclaim beam/capture beam, and ofc for dgun.
Shoulder laser would look wierd. especially with the boy having to move his whole torso to aim. If it moved only the shoulder laser for aiming, it would have to shoot through his own head to fire to the other side. This would look wierd considering that BA adheres tightly to physical collisions. (probably the most of any rts)

But he still has to move his torso to aim. It would not change anything...

It would change stuff, even if the aiming is otherwise same as ever it would change the height of the gun - so you could shoot stuff over buildings sometimes and such. Which would be a big chnge to early game, if comm could shoot a jeffy over a mex for example.
