new CA website - 2.1 Scenarios

Post by V1ntage »

The purpose of this thread is to create between 10 and 20 scenarios where all kinds of visitors come to the new website with a certain goal (preferrably important goals from question 1.3). Each scenario should have a very specific description, much like the introduction of a short story. We'll use these scenarios to help us develop and test the usability when we implement the primary content in the site structure.

3 examples:

1. A 16-year old medium skilled RTS-fan found the CA website through a link on GameSpot. GameSpot didn't mention a lot of information, so he's looking for more visuals, screenshots and videos. The website opens and...

2. A 22-year old computer gamer stumbled on the CA website when he was looking for some information about the old and beloved Total Annihilation series. He knows the genre and would like to give it a try. The website opens and...

3. A 34-year old Linux and open source fan is looking for something different than Nibbles. He found the CA website through a listing on linuxlinks.com. He never really tried immersive and deep strategy games, so he'd like to know what the game is about. The website opens and...

1.3 Who is the targetted audience? What would they be looking for on the website?
age
* kid to middle-aged

type
* computer gamers
* competetive multiplayer gamers
* RTS players
* open-source fans
* *NIX users
* game developers/artists

primary interests
* explanation of what CA actually is
* a way to download the game
* screenshots
* videos
* testimonials or reviews to confirm the quality of the game
* news
* a way to contact the development team
EDIT: updated the quote with updated question 1.3

a few more:

4. A 20 year old hardcore multiplayer gamer gets to know CA when a friend recommended it. He opens up the website and wants to download it right away.

5. A 28 year old computer gamer already plays CA and has a hard time getting to know good strategy tactics. He would like to read or get some help on learning techniques.

6. A 35 year old *NIX coder found out about CA when reading an article on open-source development. He's much interested in helping out the community and wants to get in touch.

7. A 13 year old general gamer is bored of the dozens of games on his hard drive. He'd like to try something new and clicks on an advert from what seems to be a great game. He gets to the website and wants to be impressed. He searches for screenshots and videos.

8. An 18 year old RTS gamer wants to get rid of his pirated games and searches for open source alternatives. Next to Warzone he finds CA and he is undecided which to try first. He opens up both websites and looks for videos and testimonials/reviews.

9. A 25 year old informatics college student looks for another competitive game to play with his mates. They'd like to have something different than StarCraft and C&C. After some googling they get to the CA website and wonder what the game is about. They wonder if there's a story and what the key elements are.

10. A 17 year old CA player would like to know what the newest changes are. He goes to the website to check.

11. A long(ish) time spring player (me) wants to download CA to play it (no I don't like using springdownloader, and yes I want to download an up-to-date version to play online)

12. A long(ish) time spring player (me) want to learn more about CA units.. To compare costs/strengths/what they actually do (aa?, aoe?, emp?, wtf is that thing?). Written descriptions and easy to digest information are far more preferable to complex comparison features and extensive data.

Thanks momfreeek :)

13. A 24 year old 3D modeler helps out open source projects to get better at his craft. He found CA artwork at http://www.game-artist.net and got interested in helping out CA as well. When he gets to the website he wants to contact the development team.

14. A 21 year old who loves to do voice-acting read about our request for talent on http://voiceactingalliance.com/board/ He's interested in our project and would like to see if his time will be well spent when he helps CA. He clicks on the link towards the CA website and looks for quality graphics. If he's convinced he wants to download the game and give it a try.
