A number of the games you listed use very limited selections of OGL features to achieve desired effects. Most of them are antiquated in the extreme and depend on legacy features which are carefully maintained.
I have a strange problem for full-screen, the image is show just on about 80% of screen (so, I have an empty band on top of the screen).
If I start from command line in the first screen (when selecting map and mod) the mouse cursor behaves like the empty band doesn't exist (so I have to click above the buttons quite a bit to be able to click).
Edit: version: 0.82.3.0 on gentoo, worked perfectly for 0.81.x didn't test any other 0.82
Finally dusted off my linux machine again :) It has the same 80% issue, on a AGP GeForce 7950 GT, and clean (+proprietary NVIDIA drivers) Ubuntu 10.4.
Anything I can add to help with that? :)

finally cranphin, you have come to your right mind!
i do not remember anything about this problem being said.. could be GFX driver problem, spring problem, settings problem... maybe there is a fix in master.. i can not remember. but if you want to try that, you can now setup spring compiling much more easily! (see Wiki)
