Well that settles it then. What we need is an alliance of anti-DSD pros.

We join every available dsd game and shitrape the other team so hard repeatedly until they leave the battle. We keep doing this until people realise they wont get buttfucked if they just leave and play other maps :P

It wasn't long ago when we had new maps released by Beherith, Artturi and the odd one by somebody else where a lot of players would play that new map for about a week. Lately, there haven't been an influx of new maps, and even if there were, there aren't a lot of hosts left who would put the new map up and host it whenever they can.

That reminds me, Trade, WHERE'S MAI TABULA ISLAND

that was quite... intelligent!

so if you want to kill BADSD, all pros have to go there and turn off noobs until they quit spring or play other maps (the first one being more likely). or just accept it as it is.

or they just shut up finally and go play games against eachother on some non-dsd host.

ITT: we keep stating the obvious solution, and people keep flapping their lips regardless.

Wombat speaks truth.

I think you're mixing two different problems here: overplayed maps and overcrowded games.
To be honest, the fact that DSD is overplayed doesn't annoy me as much as the fact that it's almost always played 8v8 or 7v7. Not that I think 8v8 is a bad way of playing this map (everyone should be able to play it as he likes), I just prefer the gameplay offered by a 3v3 for example, so it's just a matter of tastes...
So imho the real problem is that currently, due to some lobby protocol limitations (1) and the way autohosts are configured (2), it's quite hard to start small teams games.

(1) The lobby protocol doesn't support resizing the battle dynamicly. So, once the battle is opened, if you want to change the max players number you have to rehost the battle and everyone needs to rejoin...
So people often host for more players than they need for current map, just in case they need it later. Actually max players should be adjusted depending on current map and type of gameplay you're looking for.

(2) The default configuration of autohosts makes it possible to change the battle size too easily without vote (on SPADS, "teamSize" can be changed by any player; on Springie, "autolock" can be changed by anyone) - cf this topic and my answer here.
Maybe I should re-try making default SPADS configuration require vote to change "teamSize" and see if it's accepted by Spring players, but anyway it won't change current configuration of all installed autohosts... Also, a few months ago I added a functionnality in SPADS which allows autohost admins to limit the allowed values for direct change of each setting (other values still require a vote). For example on Spads4 you can change teamSize to 6 without having to call a vote, but for teamSize 7 or 8 you will have to call a vote. I noticed it greatly reduced the number of 8v8 DSD on this autohost, without preventing them totally.

The solution for people who hate to be forced to play 16DSD is to play more 16DSD? Well, you should try it and tell us afterwards if it worked

Yeah. You host, but you never play.

QFT

Btw, i didnt bother to read this whole topic. I just wanted to say that I found some ways to fix the problem. The first I described in the other 'DSD-hosts-suck'-topic, but that requires everyone frustrated about dsd-hosts to actually NOT PLAY IN THEM GODDAMNIT.

A different way came to my attention about 2 weeks ago, and was confirmed to me the other day by my fellow PiROs keijjo and carp (starters of these two topics). It is really simple: just switch mod. Surprisingly (or is it?) enough DSD8V8 is a BA-only infestation. I started playing Tech annihilation partially because it is not dealing with the 'DSD-noob-I-tech-in-the-back-while-the-guys-at-front-die-idiots' as much. Carp en keijo (and bara) discovered gundam(n?) but honestly i think it sucks.

In short? Just stop playing BA, it will solve your problems.

I was reading this and about to crack a "lets all switch to tech annihilation! ^_^" joke. and then..

rofled

and dont blame ba for dsd, it always comes to players.

and tech annihilation is not that terrible, it got few good ideas. tho, fun lasts till t2 tbh. (i like idea of making t1 and morphing it at the battlefield, bit different than ca, less fail, morphing slasher into flakker -_-)

i joined a tech a. game to see what it is like (i only ever saw it hosted on greenfields or speedmetal so i did not expect much), the map was sm and i made 6 gunships and killed one of these duck-fusions and there was a com next to it that also exploded and it was much lol and my curiosity was cured.

There is no solution to the 8v8dsd problem except for strong-arming autohost owners which will NEVER happen. People will continue to play 8v8dsd and sadly we can do nothing but live with it.

It's depressing though. I was off doing other things for a couple months and I come back and join the lobby and I see that the only 2 running games are DSDonly hosts and they are both 8v8 with more than 10 specs each.

It's just... ugh. Why?
