Spring RTS Engine

Hi, I'm new to creating maps and i would some input on how I can get started on creating a 3D Space Map.

Are you sure Spring is the right engine for you?

First I thought: not possibleu!

But then: Yea just make no terrain in your map, only skybox, and mapfeatures of your own, like planets and asteroids, floating in the air.

Then the biggest question follows: as zwzsg said, is the engine right for your game?

You can make a 3d map yes, but your stuck with units and things on a 2D plane. You could try some trickery with lua to get around that but at that point you're doing R&D and we won't be able to help you

You can change the fly height of gunships and planes. You can give weapons sphereical ranges. So some sort of 3D game is possible but noone has developed one to see exactly what is possible or how well it functions.

You'd have to be a rather skilled programmer, capable of writing a lot of lua or editing the engine.

Take a look at Eternal Struggle. It's probably the closest we have to a homeworld type game, but there is no 3d movement.
