OTA to Spring

Post by Zoy64 »

I read that it is possible to put third-party OTA units into Spring effectively.
I've tried and the AI won't work  . Why, and what am I doing wrong?

That's a fairly complicated question. You need to sit down with the documentation for whatever AI you're working with, and bug the AI developer who is maintaining it if you have specific questions, once you actually know what you're doing, basically. If you thought it was going to be drag-and-drop easy... sorry, it's not that easy yet, and probably won't ever be.

It's not like you can just drop third-party units into a mod and then AIs can play with them... on the other hand, unlike OTA, you can actually get Spring AIs to do what you want with the units, at least some of the time.

If this was with AAI, then you MUST delete the mod learning files every time the unit list changes (that means every time you add or remove a custom unit). Of course, you'll lose any learning AI might have accumulated, but it won't work otherwise.

Or go use an AI that doesn't rely on all the internal engine ID's being identical each game, such as TSI, CSAI or RAI.

The config editing is quite easy with AAI, look at some existing mod's configs and the help directory for explanations. If the unit is a basic unit (not a scout or arty for example), it's very possible you don't even have to change the config.

The point as that you ahd to delete all the mod learning data by hand for AAIto work with an extra unit,a nd you had todo ti again for each unit you added,a nd then again for when you removed them.

No effort on the behalf of the user is required for the other AIs

Are there any AIs made for that purpose?

No, because models made for ota are pretty much made of fail.

Please read the entire thread before you reply to it.

You can add KAI and NTai to that list.
