With the disappointment called PA I've started looking elsewhere to get my TA kicks and decided to return to SpringRTS after an absence spanning around ~6 years.

It initially crashed when I tried to enter a singleplayer game with a bot for no apparent reason.

Start the lobby (thus the game) as local administrator, crash.

Browse the infolog.txt, find the line about GPU drivers, updated my drivers. Tried again and crash.

So I googled my way through the help forum and scaled everything down. I couldn't start the game in safemode some how from the lobbyclient (help with this is welcome). But at least the game fired up and the countdown started: 3.. 2.. 1.. crash.

After some more testing I removed the bot and fired up the same scenario (BAv8 with small supreme battlefield). Now it got past the countdown and I could move my commander. Controls seemed to work fine, but when ever I click on the mex button, the game crashes with the all to familiar "Access Violation" error and a link to the infolog.txt.

I've tried to start a botless SP match with EvolutionRTS, but this crashed outright.

I've tried running one of the dev-builds (http://springrts.com/dl/buildbot/defaul ... f97/win32/) as suggested here. But I was unable to download the mods for them. When running the spring.exe this also crashed. Running in windowed, problem persists.

Is there anything else I can do?

Setting CPU affinity to a single core also results in a crash when I click on the mex.

Oddly enough, running the portable version of the latest dev-build worked like a charm for me. I haven't tried only matches yet.

This is likely because the current dev build contains fixes/workaround for ATI/AMD driver issues.

But you are in luck - the current dev version is (hopefully!) going to be released as the live version within the next week. So the simplest thing for you do is play against AIs (e.g. KAI) on your functioning dev version and wait a little.

To download maps/games (if you use SpringLobby) you right click on the game/map name in the battle list and it gives you an option to download. Other lobbies likely offer something similar. There is also www.springfiles.com.

Fwiw the worth the problem is likely related too
