Spring crashes every game

Every game I crash, early and late (but not when I'm spectator)

System specs:
Windows 7
i7 @ 1.6 ghz
ATI HD 2670 1GB, (running most recent catalyst driver)
Spring settings
- running at low settings
- disabling all unnecessary lua widgets doesn't help
- reinstalling spring doesn't help

Since which Spring version have you been having this problem? Only the latest?
What sound card do you have? Driver version?

Well I think since the latest or the one before that. I've never crashed this much before.


I've updated all my drivers now but it still happens
(Audio: IDT 92HD73C1)
Hardware: Dell Studio XPS 1645 laptop

But.... I don't think its in the audio now I think about it since I only crash if I'm playing and not when speccing.

The only comparison I found between 2 logs I checked is that it crashes after somebody added a point:

do not post infolog like this, attach as file please!

you could try to use the OpenAL32.dll from an older spring install (0.81 i think), make sure to check if the file size differs. it show up as creative in infolog then, instead of OpenAL Soft.

I tried OpenAL32.dll from 81.x and when I hover over it it does tell me its from Creative and its filesize differs too. But.... when I start spring the sounds just don't work anymore.


(I guess you already know this but my audio cip is not from creative tho its from: http://www.idt.com/?genId=92HD73C1)

The error you have could be related to your audio device. I would try uninstalling the audio driver and then see if Spring runs fine without sound.

DevIL is just an image support library that lets you load png, jpg and more in C/C++ which doesn't have support for those kind of things in its API. It's perfectly harmless and you will even find a little devil.dll in your spring folder. :wink:

Well using the old dll won't give me sound but at least spring doesn't crash anymore. So eh.. hurray!

You could try a bunch of different versions of that DLL and see if any gives you sound without crashing. Maybe this one works:

Ik works, only the sounds is like 10% of what it used to be, i got to set spring volume to 400% to hear anything a bit.

I dont know yet if this resolves crashes, we'll see


(i copied the dll from system32 tothe springfolder)

you may also set NoSound=1 in spring settings to disable using of the dll completely (no sound of course, but probably also no crashes.
