i usually don't post stuff like this but jesus christ

Forty thousand Nevadans soon will receive word that they might have been exposed to HIV and hepatitis strains B and C in what a federal health official called the largest notification of its kind in U.S. history.

Patients who visited the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada at 700 Shadow Lane between March 2004 and Jan. 11 are being urged to get tested for the diseases as soon as possible.

Health officials cautioned them to practice safe sex and use condoms.

At a Wednesday afternoon news conference attended by health officials and doctors from the facility, officials said six people diagnosed with acute hepatitis C in recent months received treatment at the center near Valley Hospital Medical Center. They are believed to have been exposed to the disease when anesthesiologists reused syringes to administer medications.

The Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada is a high-volume gastrointestinal practice where colonoscopies are frequently performed. Reuse of syringes and vials at the facility was a "common practice" undertaken by everyone from doctors to technicians, health officials said.

The business was investigated for other unsafe practices such as not properly cleaning endoscopic equipment used in colonoscopies and upper gastrointestinal procedures.

First thing- Sorry for all the People who got there health ruined this way. I hope they find a Cure against Aids or Hepatitis before it takes them to heaven-

Second thing - This will sting a little bit..

Another great Triumph of the Free Market!!!
Nothing cheaper then a secondhand (or arm ;) ?)syringe, that´s a Way to get cured and all of the sudden the (evil socialistic) European Healthcaresystems doesen´t look so ugly anymore.

Ringelingeding- there goes the Phone:
"Mr.Zoombie, here is Dr.Shithappens. You may haven´t heard of it, but my Nevada Syringe Supporter is offering you a free blood test - how about it ?"

Hope they don´t make the mistake to sue the doctor with there lawyers. You can´t get Doctor guilty in a court, if he hasn´t
a) a charlatan- reputation in the Mediccomunity
b) has hired (fully aware) at a charlatan-company

in every other Case, there are Doctors needed for expertise - and they wouldn´t do there job, if with every case there was the risk of livelong compensation payment. So just another Risk-on-the-List, Kunstfehler kommen nicht vor! :|

Wow, that probably counts as criminal negligence. Doesn't infecting someone with a terminal disease count as manslaughter?

I live in Las Vegas. This place is right near the Clark County Health Department. The whole area is full of medical centers. It's very scary that this practice could go on in such a large scale.

There are alot of useless Rules in Hospitals - take just Desinfection - As a rule you should wash your hands after every Case. But have you ever seen a Nurse or Doctor with Hands ruined by constant washng?
No, because wounded Hands would just carry infections even better - now if you get a really overworked Doctor who even didn´t change rubbergloves !

There are also those Multiantibiotics, Tetracylins, etc. who can freeze nearly every infection (even bacteria after operations in the abdominal cavity).
Those Wonderdrugs combinded with impossible-to- follow-rules create the climat in which such unforgivable Sins like Syringe-reuse start to get a habit...

Well i guess at least the Companys CEOs Head well be served on the silver Plate.

Jesus Christ. It's unbelievable. I thought it was common sense in medical practice to never reuse a syringe for any reason. I wonder if they'll ever present a statistic for how many of those people that were notified were acctually positive for something blood transmitted.

I'm sure you'd have a legal case if you were found positive of something terminal. This event basically calls into question the entire medical practice.

@Swiftspear:
Temporary Maybee. In the long Run - no. It is the same thing with hygenia as with all kind of security measures - they usually don´t calculate into there ideal standard procedures the overworked humans lazyness and the moraldestroying run of daily routine.

However to reuse Throw-away Tools is really bad... They should have a kind of Chemickalmarker on the outside, that get´s red the first time it is taken out of the Package after it was steamcooked...

However the Question is also, did they reuse the Needles ? That would mean really massmurder Horror :(

What kind of Dumbfuck...?

Anyone who has the education of a fucking 7TH GRADER should know that, if you replace the needle, the syringe itself does NOT get cleaned. I feel extremely pissed to live in Henderson, now.

What The HELL. If you're taking the blood of people suspected to have a disease, HAVE SOME GODDAMNED COMMON SENSE. Unless this was intentional, in which case I'm going to roll my eyes and move to Canada.

HIV infection in Nevada, bad situation. Why can HIV be like cow pocks and be, nasty as it is, simply treated my picking off the scab and rubbing the puss into another open scab. But, no, HIV has to attack the immune system and allow a host of diseases to become potentially lethal to the person and the virus is adaptable. I guess we should be happy that we don't have something like head exploding aunt fungus:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... &plindex=0

I've heard that there's a deer tick with saliva out there that can help fight HIV by causing a protein to be attached to T-cells, making them more difficult for the virus to identify and attack.
