Precisely. I used the modbase pack as it adds humans as playable and adds stuff that make humans a bit different.
I am currently playing as dorfs with my edited version of the CivForge mod.

Yes, I like mods :P.

Yeah, I think my first large project should be the skyvault locked in with people that never met the land-dwellers. Safety first!

captnduck finished his video tutorials for dwarf fortress which cover pretty much everything, i found them extremely useful when i was starting but i'm pretty sure that even vet's of DF would learn something new here and there.

OMG, just started playing again in the last few days... finally have a CPU that can handle it at reasonable speed...

first year has been fun, my people ran out of food because I had planned on a fishing economy but was surrounded by sturgeon and carp and so that killed a large number, then people went insane from hunger and started killing eachother, now, with my last miner alive (one of my starting dwarves) I get 19 imigrants :D.

Woo, Linux can't even handle ASCII.

I've gotta see what this is all about if so many of you are still playing it. I dismissed it the first time around (yeah, I saw the tutorial). It's a pity the developer won't just make a GUI, it could be so much more inviting to newcomers. Wow, imagine this as an MMO!

Sleska, could I persuade you to write a tutorial for BA once AA's released?

If you're on Ubuntu, I believe the command is 'sudo apt-get install dwarf-fortress'
:P

If you really have played it you get burned out by it, not bored of it.

Or you found that you didn't have the right combination of hardware and accessibility. I played on my EEE every day for three months, but I found that I could not effectively play with more than one hundred dwarves or with a siege.

true... the "ran out of CPU" issue is what stopped me the first time (I could only get to 50 dwarves before it became unplayable.

Now that I have a decent CPU I'm scared to go back...
