^^ this

Also, it isn't nice to steal textures or heightmaps either, but there is some degree of freedom there as well. I remember some guy got mad at me because he thought I was using his heightmap (I wasn't, but it was similar enough that he thought I was (actually in reality it was quite different)), so if you directly rip a heightmap, please give credit to the original author and the original map name to keep from ruffling feathers.

Lolz!

Well, i'd like to say: Bring it on!

I'd like to know what kind of map the community wants.
What is it that bugs people the most with DSD.
What is/are (still) the most important thing(s) in a map
This is kinda like how i started with Delta Siege, and i like to make maps which are wanted by the community.

(And yes i'll try to make it as good and nice looking as possible)

I would happily share idea's, metal and feature layouts, and whatever good idea might be brought to the table.

BTW. Just starting to get back in the saddle here.
Reading the last posts and watching all kinds of vids. (also about Spring :P )
So plz, don't expect me to have anything ready (very) soon.

Actually, DSD was a great map, it's just it became standard to play games with way more players on it than it was designed for.

If you make a map with some magic Lua implemented into it to prevent it from being played with more than x players on it that would be brilliant! :P Perhaps explode random coms until the right amount of coms remain if it's started with more than x players xD

I already proposed such patch to BA to limit it to 10 coms:

It's good, so it gets played much, and then snowball into being the only map ever played. What bugs people the most with DSD is that it suffocated every other maps.

Wasn't you, Ice :-) It was some other guy who wasn't actually a mapper but had posted a concept heightmap that was vaguely similar.

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=22977&p=429683&hilit=a+house+divided#p429683

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=25743&p=480395&hilit=a+house+divided#p480395

Btw, if you will reskin DSD (in something not so godawful ugly :-) Protexture was pro, but just cause it was pro doesn't make it non-ugly =D ) and ssmf it + add features, i will include it in the evo install (It plays even better in evo than it does in ba tbh imo):-)

haha @ everyone.
Makes me smile to be back!
Thanks!

I'm (slowly but definately) reading into all the developments that are going on here.
Just want to make sure what to aim for.
And yes, i should probably start a new thread to get to know the (new) peepz here.

Features: yes they should really be in! (A lot more beautiful ones have been made)
SSMF: stuff looks really promissing and flexible! (2bad it is linked to the shadow-system)

BTW Forboding: i was only joking! :P

And yes, DS(D) wasn't even really the prettiest map..
Hopefully my new skills in designing come in handy soon.
Trying out that great World Machine 'thingy' soon! :-)

IceX, its not linked to the shadow system any more. Those without shadows can see it too - its only LOS view (and passability, elevation) that have it disabled.

If you want to get back into it, there is a lot to re-learn.

Start here:
viewtopic.php?f=56&t=26028

Then here:
viewtopic.php?f=56&t=21458

Then here:
viewtopic.php?f=56&t=23654

Then here:
viewtopic.php?f=56&t=25752

And if you have Carrara (what me and Beherith use for texturing):
viewtopic.php?f=56&t=20363

And finally, if you like using skyboxxen, here:
viewtopic.php?f=56&t=11009

Now go remake DSD, gogogogo
