Re: What Age Certification is Spring/Balanced Annihilation
They have no access to online gaming at school so that isn't an issue. Good in some ways as that isn't a problem, bad in others as there are loads of awesome free multi-player games we can't access. There are always free versions which are nearly as good or better though!Jools wrote:I agree with smoth's first post; the games themselves are harmless, but some people in the community can be immature, but this applies to the Internet in general. Since you are a teacher you have probably already brought up the etiquette of how to behave on the Internet anyway.

Not 3D, but might still be interesting: OpenRA.SANGER_A2 wrote:If anyone can suggest any other 3D multiplayer LAN games that don't need any Internet connection at all I'd be really grateful. These are getting a bit stale:-

Games can be made with direct connect (no clue how well that works though), so after installing internet shouldn't be needed. (during installing it will need some of the content from the now freeware C&C and Red Alert games)

While it looks kind of good, the gameplay is in my opinion still missing something. Especially playing against the AI should be alot more interessting then it currently is.
There are also several small quirks that are game stopping but possible a bit annoying.
Once the next spring engine version is released (in some weeks/months), I want to make a stand-alone download that includes everything needed to play: engine, game, map pack, lobby, etc.
So waiting a bit might pay off
This might be releveant for all spring games: http://springrts.com/wiki/Spring_on_a_LAN
other free 3D:
-Cube 2 / sauerbraten: http://sauerbraten.org/
-Clusterball: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clusterball
(there seems to be some iPhone version now, look for the PC game from ~2002 or so.)

This guide was the one I followed to setup the games on our LAN.knorke wrote:This might be releveant for all spring games: http://springrts.com/wiki/Spring_on_a_LAN

Cube 2 the graphics and gameplay isn't that good. Clusterball looks cool, I'm gonna try that one out too.
