Are they in chronological order? Then maybe include date, otherwise they seem just randomised. Other idea would be to sort in categories, game, map, engine etc...

yes. date isn't included because this would require a layout change which is a lot more work. category is already prefixed. about grouping... no clue, not sure if its useful / makes sense here.

also posts are very outdated because no posts where moved to the release subforums.

I got a super urgent github issue posted. I was also at a conference and made a fix then had to go before I was finished doing it. Hence hashes. The fix was undone a little while afterwards.

As I said earlier, a simplistic chronologically ordered feed will never suffice and keep everybody happy, and is already a poor UI. Complaining that it doesn't provide relevant news is like complaining a box doesn't always keep the thing you want out of it at the very top.

News here doesn't come in a slow and well balanced stream, it comes in stops and starts all at once, and some sources are noisier than others, be it because they simply do more, or they have different opinions about what's news-worthy. A lot of it isn't very good quality either, and most stuff pulled into springinfo historically has been so bad I've had to stop the feeds

As I've been saying, help is needed to run it all at optimum performance, and little help has been given. The handful of people who registered tumblrs and accounts for attribution are good, but when I consider the number #1 complainer refused to help because the posts attributed to him might end up being attributed to him..

Re: The ZK youtube feed

No. As I said on Github I am not removing it from the site.

I refuse to compromise the entire sites main RSS feed for this, you ask for an RSS feed of everything, you got an RSS feed for everything, now you're complaining you got everything.

That doesn't mean it has to be in the feed however, and the feed springrts.com pulls from springinfo.info is none of my concern. It is not SpringInfo code. We've already covered that the feed URL can be modified to remove categories, and if you're unhappy with the ones pulled across, there's a Github repository for this website you can submit a pull request to modify that URL.

As for the release forum, perhaps if it had an RSS feed I could do something with that

There is a Github Repo with Issues here. USE IT. Posting that you got hashes instead of URLs in a forum thread on a site I don't visit often is highly effective. Posting an issue on a site I visit on a near hourly basis, that I use in work, that pings my phone, is extremely inneffective and unlikely to get my attention.

I think the problem is that some people were trying to discuss/improve the news-box-thing on springrts.com frontpage but this thread is actually about springinfo.
It seems springinfo people are more interessted in springinfo and do not care so much what their changes do to the springrts.com frontpage.
AF wrote:the feed springrts.com pulls from springinfo.info is none of my concern
Afterall, this thread's title is "OH LAWD!!! What happened to Springinfo!" and springinfo people have different ideas but those are unsuited for springrts.com frontpage.
For example adding 20 tourney videos at once might be useful for springinfo's "video archive" or whatever but is of course useless for springrts.com frontpage.
There one would rather only have the one hand-written post about the tourney.
So springinfo is clearly the wrong source for the newsbox on springrts.com and something else should be used, for example what like what abma now did.

This site pulls down the feed for everything, videos and all. I'm simply saying, be more selective...

When buying 1 of every item from a super market then seeing you've bought tires, the answer is not to never shop there again. The answer is to only buy what you wanted

The supermarket owner has constantly been throwing unwated items into the shopping cart.
Maybe it is possible to take things out, but that has always been a hassle and yes, the answer is to shop elsewhere or grow your own groceries.

To not derail this springinfo discussion any further, a thread about the news on springrts.com:

Anything on springinfo can be turned into a feed by adding /feed/ on the end. If you don't like the root all you can eat feed, you can change it.

As I understand it, the feed springrts.com uses has only ever been changed once.

I tried explaining this multiple times at one point. People just can't get their heads around the fact that wordpress turns anything and everything into an rss feed, so you can be as granular as you like or as broad as you like. The concept really is quite simple, but for some reason it doesn't sink in.

I only want videos:

http://www.springinfo.info/category/videos/

Here's the RSS:

http://www.springinfo.info/category/videos/feed

I'm only interested in things tagged as news, with no videos downloads or images:

http://www.springinfo.info/category/news/

I think Knorke would like that a lot, but he's decided to ignore it. Here's the RSS:

http://www.springinfo.info/category/news/feed/

I like dev videos and engine experiments:

http://www.springinfo.info/category/development/

Here's an RSS feed:

http://www.springinfo.info/category/development/feed/

I like Balanced Annihilation. I don't care about all those other rubbish games, BA <3!!!!:

http://www.springinfo.info/Games/balanced-annihilation/

Here's an RSS feed:

http://www.springinfo.info/Games/balanc ... tion/feed/

----------------------------------------------

I like everything and don't care about relevancy:

http://www.springinfo.info/

Here's the RSS feed:

http://www.springinfo.info/feed/

None of the above. springinfo has had its chance, after years of not working it is time to try something else.
